Tonearm Repair Shop to make appearance at this years show
25/10/24
After a number of rolls within the Hifi Business and redundancy during Covid-19, I decided to setup my own shop in late 2020.
After a couple of years building my business, I branched out into refurbishing old tonearms, this was in conjunction with John Neilson of Audio Origami (now J7 Rewires).
John wished to scale back a little and decided he only wanted to work on a limited group of arms, that left the market open to service the other arms, so with John’s help and training, I started The Tonearm Repair Shop.
The most prolific arms I do are Linn Ittok’s, Naim Aro’s, Syrinx PU2 and PU3, and the many Jelco derivatives, but I have worked on many and varied arms, a couple so rare that even the mighty google came up a blank.
I can tackle most issues with tonearms, I don’t just rewire them, I basically take them apart and rebuild them, using new wire and bearings, and modifications when necessary. I have done several repairs that basically resurrected arms the customers thought where ready for landfill. Some arrive mint and complete, other times I get a box of bits, but it’s all good.
I love a problem and am happy to discuss all your needs, with money tighter for most folk these days it’s often prudent to keep your old and restore it, rather than spending many thousands on a new modern equivalent, these often don’t sound any better than an old arm made during the zenith of vinyl replay.
I will be at the show in the Mian Distribution room, The Boardroom. Pop in and discuss your tonearm needs, you can even drop off your arm and I will take it away and repair/refurbish it, if you do so during the Edinburgh Hifi Show I will offer 10% discount from my normal prices.
See you there, Paul Bird
